TAFE NSW KATOOMBA STUDENT OPENS BEAUTIFUL BUSINESS

It was a love for all things beauty which inspired TAFE NSW Katoomba student, Jessica Bruce to follow her dream of opening a successful business in her home town.

21-year-old Jessica is completing a Certificate III in Beauty Services and has launched her own business, Anne’s Lash & Beauty Lounge. She is entering the lash extension industry at the right time, as the global market is projected to reach 2.31 Billion by 2028.[1]

Jessica said, “From a young age I always had my mind set on being a beautician, so I was determined to learn all that I could.

“I’ve learnt so much from the industry qualified teachers at TAFE NSW. My study has really given me hands-on skills and helped me keep up with the latest in industry trends and techniques.

“I can gladly say now I own and operate my beauty business, Anne’s Lash & Beauty Lounge, which I named after my grandmother.

“I’m enjoying performing a range of services for my clients, especially eyelash extensions. They are popular for all age groups as they provide effortless beauty. Clients love waking up with gorgeous lashes and cutting down the need to apply mascara or eyeliner.”

TAFE NSW Head Teacher of Hair and Beauty Rebecca Hamilton said Beauty Services is a thriving industry bouncing back quickly post COVID-19.

"Our students finish their qualifications with the skills to successfully start their own businesses. We see graduates opening salons, as well as offering home services or renting salon space while they establish their client base," Ms Hamilton said.

“Jessica is a wonderful example of the opportunities available in the beauty industry right now, regardless of where you are in your career journey."

According to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee, strong growth is expected in the beauty industry with an increase of 20 per cent in beauty therapists by 2024, despite a 50 per cent reduction in beauty therapists in 2020.[2]

The nationally recognised Certificate III in Beauty Services prepares students for a career as a qualified beautician in a salon environment.
