TAFE NSW make-up students bring Halloween fun to Erina Fair.

29 October 2019

Australians are embracing Halloween like never before, with research by ebay.com.au finding an 82 per cent rise in spooky décor purchases and a 31 per cent increase in Halloween costume sales in the last five years.[1]

TAFE NSW Screen and Media special effects make-up students will be on hand at Erina Fair this Thursday to take Halloween shopping to a new level when they make-over shoppers with creepy looks from 10:15am to 1:45pm.

TAFE NSW Screen and Media, Specialist Make-up Teacher, Sharon Newman said shoppers can visit the pop-up special effects studio in the Myer forecourt for a Halloween makeover.

“The students have learnt a range of specialist makeup techniques while they have been studying the Diploma in Screen and Media, so this is a great opportunity to showcase their talents to the general public.

“This type of specialised makeup application is different to traditional, beauty-style make-up and while our students can do some very effective and scary looks, this is about creating some fun Halloween looks that are friendly for all ages.

“Students learn blending and shading skills and the students have been challenged by Erina Fair to create softer, beautiful Halloween looks which will match the pastel decorations throughout the shopping centre.

“Students will be able to use those techniques in their careers to create realistic injuries, or futuristic effects and a work in range of industries such as film, television and advertising industries,” Sharon said.

TAFE NSW specialist make-up student, Robyn Bull said she is really enjoying this component of the Diploma of Screen and Media.

“This is a great way for me to develop practical skills and gain work experience that will help me pursue a career in special effects make-up,” said Robyn.

The day will culminate in a make-up spectacular where models will walk the runway after having had specialised Halloween-themed make-up applied by the students.

There are a range of screen and media courses available on the Central Coast for enrolment now. To find out more visit www.tafensw.edu.au or call 131 601.
