TAFE NSW Mudgee to offer prestigious wine course

Mudgee winemaker, Jacob Stein.

For the first time, local wine professionals can increase their knowledge of the wine industry at TAFE NSW Mudgee to further their careers in the growing wine sector.

TAFE NSW Sydney Wine Academy is delivering an internationally recognised WSET Level 2 Award in Wines, providing locals with an opportunity to develop their product knowledge, job skills and competencies with local and international grape varieties.

Robert Stein Winery Director and third-generation Chief Winemaker, Mr Jacob Stein said it was perfect timing for the course to be offered in Mudgee.

“Mudgee’s tourism industry continues to experience growth during COVID-19 with Sydneysiders looking to escape to the country. As a result, employment opportunities in the wine and hospitality industry have increased,” Mr Stein said.

“The TAFE NSW Sydney Wine Academy is a highly recognised organisation in the industry and their graduate's qualifications are something I look favourably upon when recruiting. Having the course conveniently offered in Mudgee will also reduce the expenses which would normally occur when completing the course in Sydney.”

The Australian wine sector contributes over $40 billion annually to the Australian economy and employs more than 160,000 people. The Mudgee region is a large contributor to this, with more than 40 cellar doors.i

TAFE NSW Sydney Wine Academy Head Teacher, Clive Hartley said the course was not only ideal for industry professionals, but also for those who are looking to break into the industry or expand their knowledge of international wines.

“The three-day course will provide a great insight into the world of wine and increase participants' confidence in talking about wine to customers. WSET Award Level 2 in Wines is an extremely desirable qualification to have on your resume and is a pre-requisite to go onto the next Advanced level course.”

The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines will occur over three days, 1-3 December at TAFE NSW Mudgee.
