TAFE NSW student lands stellar job with Accor Hotels

TAFE NSW is supporting the accommodation industry during COVID-19 by ensuring a strong pipeline of skilled, job-ready workers are filling employment opportunities in the sector.

More than 20,000 people have now been quarantined in NSW hotels and returned travellers accounted for 70% of cases reported in NSW in the  four weeks leading up to June 61.

In her new role in the Talent and Culture team at the global hospitality group Accor, TAFE NSW Advanced Diploma of Management (Human Resources) student Grace Anderson has been supporting recent Accor initiatives including aid for frontline health workers in the form of food drop-offs to local hospitals. Grace secured her dream job with the global hospitality group, Accor, after undertaking an internship there as part of her studies at TAFE NSW.

Grace said, “I travelled the world working in all types of hospitality roles including as a room attendant, in food and beverage and guest services and management. I love making memorable moments for people.

“This new role for me is extremely rewarding and I’m so thankful that I am able to contribute to the wellbeing of others during this difficult time.”

Throughout the isolation period, Accor have also provided vital shelter to frontline health workers, vulnerable families and domestic abuse survivors needing a safe refuge and those required to undergo mandatory quarantine after returning from overseas.

Sarah Derry, Senior Vice President for Talent and Culture for Accor Pacific, said: “We are delighted to welcome Grace to Accor Pacific, she is a strong addition to our team.”

Grace is thriving in her new position and says the industry experience and connections of her teachers were crucial in helping her secure her perfect job.

“Now I’m in my dream job where I get to look after 300-plus the 'behind-the-scenes' makers in hotels which is pretty special. Being able to support such a diverse range of people in an organisation is incredible. Looking after our people's happiness increases engagement and productivity - which is a win-win for everyone!

“I'm so glad I was able to take part in this course. The teachers were inspiring, encouraged self-development and discipline and were mindful of an individual’s learning capability. I also loved the flexible study options offered by TAFE NSW. It makes life simple when you have an option which caters to your lifestyle,” Grace said.
