TAFE NSW student tops the state in HSC course

21 January 2022

Narromine local and TAFE NSW Dubbo student Abram Liddell has finished first in the state in the HSC Electrotechnology Examination.

Abram studied a Certificate II in Electrotechnology at TAFE NSW Dubbo while completing his HSC at St Johns College Dubbo.

A recreational pilot, Abram initially considered studying to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. He decided instead to study electrotechnology, and gain real-world practical skills with TAFE NSW as part of his HSC.

“I’ve always been interested in electrical projects and robotics and could see that it would be a secure career path in an area that interested me,” Abram said.

“Studying at TAFE NSW was a brilliant choice, and the practical skills I learned have been really valuable as I entered the industry and started my apprenticeship.

“Regardless of where my career eventually takes me, I’ll always be able to shoot for the moon with electrical as my foundation.”

Abram is now working as a Network and Security Technician apprentice at Dubbo surveillance and security firm, Simtec, and will continue on to a Certificate III In Electrotechnology at TAFE NSW this year.

TAFE NSW Dubbo Head Teacher of Electrical Trades Philip Redenbach said Abram’s result in the HSC was a testament to his commitment to excellence in electrotechnology.

“Abram’s exceptional result in the HSC reflect not just his hard work and dedication, but also the quality, hands-on training TAFE NSW provides students to help them reach their career ambitions and ensure we have a skilled and capable workforce of the future,” Mr Redenbach said.

“I have no doubt Abram will go on to be a great ambassador for TAFE NSW and enjoy a successful career in the electrical industry.”

TAFE NSW offers over 40 Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses to study as part of the HSC in areas including animal studies, plumbing, automotive, maritime operations, IT, hospitality, and fitness.
