TAFE NSW STUDENTS CLEAN UP AT THIS YEAR’S AUSTRALIAN COMMERCIAL RADIO AWARDS

TAFE NSW graduate Jess Scully was awarded Best Music Special at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs) on Saturday evening.

The ACRAs are known as the Oscars of the radio world, and recognise outstanding talent across 39 radio categories, including news, talk, sport, music and entertainment.

Jess, who works as a Workday Announcer on RealFM Mudgee, won the award in the Country music category for her feature ‘32 Years of Taylor Swift’.

Jess said, “I still can’t believe we won. I’m still in disbelief. At the awards night, it was empowering to hear how radio connects people from all walks of life and confirms that we work in a special industry”.

Recent reports from PwC showing the Australian broadcast market has had significant growth since COVID. With monthly listenership increasing on average by 5.5 per cent year on year and set to hit 11.5 million listeners by 2026.

Jess said studying at TAFE NSW has given her the opportunity to learn and apply practical skills directly from teachers with industry experience.

“I first got into broadcasting when I studied Radio Broadcasting through high school at TAFE NSW and I haven’t looked back since. The teachers at TAFE NSW really care about the students and provide a supportive and nurturing environment.

“I enrolled in a Certificate II in Broadcasting at TAFE NSW Newcastle, and that course offered me an excellent entry into the broadcasting and industry.

“I love working in a small station that has a big impact on the community”.

TAFE NSW Head Teacher of Media & Entertainment Kerry Furlong said, “We are beyond proud of Jess taking home awards at this year’s ACRA”.

"Jess’s success is a testament to following your passion and reaping the rewards. TAFE NSW is providing a pipeline of highly skilled and passionate industry professionals to support the growing broadcast industry in NSW.”
