TAFE NSW students create music video for rising star

Students at TAFE NSW Loftus have turned up the volume for local music artist and fellow TAFE NSW alumni Tim Richards - collaborating to create a stellar music video for his brand-new song “Amy”.

Tim, who completed an Advanced Diploma in Music Performance at Ultimo at the end of 2016, is a rising star in the music industry who recently released his debut EP. He’s also been supporting legendary 70’s rockers Dragon and with the help of drummer Herman Kovac from the Ted Mullray Gang, Tim has been building up his repertoire of songs to release an LP in 2020.

TAFE NSW Screen and Media teacher Nick Bleszynski said when the students found out they would be creating a video clip for Tim’s new song they were thrilled.

Nick said, “At TAFE NSW we are always looking for ways to have our students work practically on real-world projects. When Tim came to us with the idea it was a no-brainer.

“This opportunity gave the students hands-on experience in how to visualise, film and edit a music video from start to finish and how to adapt it for social media. The students were offered creative freedom over the project and really relished the chance to dive straight in.”

The Certificate IV in Screen and Media students developed a social media profile and a music video filmed locally with the assistance of Sutherland Tram Museum.

“Developing a project for a real client with real needs is the best way to build up the skills and professionalism TAFE NSW students will need to succeed in what can be a very competitive industry,” Nick said.

Screen and Media student Amy Cashman said the experience had been incredible and she was amazed by what the class had achieved.

Amy said, “It has been such a privilege to work on a real video clip for such an awesome song and with such a talented musician. By working on this project means I’ve gained practical skills and work experience that I can demonstrate to potential employers, and that’s just so valuable for my future career options too.

“We really were able to dive right into the project which is what I like most about studying at TAFE NSW. This opportunity has been great for everyone involved and we’re so proud of what we’ve achieved.”
