TAFE NSW students dominate Central and Northern Sydney Regional Training Awards: Leann Reyes

Lane Cove local Leann Reyes has been announced as the winner of the Central and Northern Sydney Training Awards Apprentice of the Year at the prestigious Training Services NSW virtual event last night. 

The TAFE NSW student, who is employed by Wildlife Hair was one of three winners of the awards announced via Facebook live. 

TAFE NSW Regional General Manager Vicky Mazzeo said the strong showing by TAFE NSW finalists for the six award categories was testament to their commitment to excellence in their chosen field.  

“Congratulations to Leann on winning Apprentice of the Year, this is a wonderful result for TAFE NSW and a glowing endorsement of Leann’s natural ability and determination,” said Ms Mazzeo.   

“Leann’s success is a great reminder of how important the presence of TAFE NSW is in our communities. For over 130 years, dedicated TAFE NSW teachers have helped students to reach their potential and forge successful career paths.” 

Leann Reyes said “I am honoured to be named Apprentice of the Year. After leaving university to pursue my dream career in hairdressing, my apprenticeship changed my life in so many positive ways. 

“I have been lucky enough to be taught by many industry leaders during my training at TAFE NSW and Wildlife Hair,” Leanne said. 

Elle Murray Fowler, Head of Education at Wildlife Hair said, “Leann is a valuable and reliable member of our team, as a mature age apprentice she goes above and beyond to mentor our younger apprentices. We are very proud of her achievement.” 

Minister for Tertiary Education, Geoff Lee, said that he was delighted that so many of the award winners were from TAFE NSW and that the strong results at this year’s awards we are clear demonstration of the high-quality education and training provided by Australia’s largest training provider.  

“TAFE NSW plays a critical role in shaping the careers of people across a range of important industries that are critical to the economy. 

“Leann is testament to the depth of talent and exciting career opportunities on offer through vocational education and training pathways.  

The NSW Training Awards celebrate the excellence of apprentices, trainees and students undertaking vocational education and training. 

The winners from the Central and Northern Sydney Training Awards will be interviewed and considered for the NSW Training Awards which will are planned to be held in Sydney later this year.
