TAFE NSW students dominate Southern and South Western Sydney Regional Training Awards: Stephanie Chan

Hurstville local Stephanie Chan has been announced as the winner of the Southern and South Western Sydney Regional Training Awards Vocational Student of the Year at the prestigious Training Services NSW virtual event today. 

The TAFE NSW Fashion Design student was one of five winners of the awards announced via Facebook live. 

TAFE NSW Regional General Manager Vicky Mazzeo said the strong showing by TAFE NSW finalists for the six award categories was testament to their commitment to excellence in their chosen field. 

“Congratulations to Stephanie on winning Vocational Student of the Year, this is a wonderful result for TAFE NSW and a great endorsement of Stephanie’s natural ability and determination,” said Ms Mazzeo. 

“TAFE NSW plays a crucial role delivering a skilled, capable workforce and Stephanie will no doubt make an outstanding contribution to the Australian fashion industry as she progresses in her career.” 

Stephanie said “It is an honour to achieve this award and I hope to continue to be an inspirational role model for future students considering vocational study. 

“This is a huge personal milestone, a morale boost and has fuelled my desire to be a leader in my field.  

“I have plans to continue vocational training overseas in specialised ateliers to bring home some traditional Haute Couture techniques to keep the art alive, and one day start my own fashion label here in Australia.” 

Minister for Tertiary Education, Geoff Lee, said that he was delighted that so many of the award winners were from TAFE NSW and that the strong results at this year’s awards we are clear demonstration of the high-quality education and training provided by Australia’s largest training provider.  

“TAFE NSW plays a critical role in shaping the careers of people across a range of important industries that are critical to the economy. 

“Stephanie is testament to the depth of talent and exciting career opportunities on offer through vocational education and training pathways.  

The NSW Training Awards celebrate the excellence of apprentices, trainees and students undertaking vocational education and training. 

The winners from the Southern and South Western Sydney Regional Training Awards will be interviewed and considered for the NSW Training Awards which will are planned to be held in Sydney later this year.
