Narrabri locals Maria Revell and Alexia Weckert are encouraging job seekers to consider a rewarding career in the aged care industry considering local employment opportunities.i

Both Maria and Alexia studied a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) at TAFE NSW Narrrabri and were employed by Whiddon Narrabri and Wee Waa before completing their course.

Maria Revell chose to upskill at TAFE NSW after working in an administrative role for many years. Ms Revell became passionate about the aged care industry after her 94 year-old father was diagnosed with dementia and admitted to an aged care facility.

Little did she know, studying at TAFE NSW would broaden her skillset and enable her to be in a job she loves.

Ms Revell said “I have learnt an abundance of in-depth knowledge about the aged care industry that I never thought I would.

“TAFE NSW has opened my eyes to the importance of  the welfare of senior people and providing a happy and content end of life experience for the elderly.”

Whiddon Narrabri Director of Care, Fiona Lysaught, said the organisation invest a great deal in finding and developing team members who have the values and skills to provide the right experience for our residents and clients.

“Our people are at the heart of our organisation and are our greatest asset, so it takes special people, like the two TAFE NSW students that we have employed, to be able to listen, provide care and support that truly makes a difference to older people’s lives.”

TAFE NSW Aged Care and Nursing Teacher, Candace Destefani said both Maria and Alexia were outstanding students and should be proud of their achievements.

“The whole class has also had great employment outcomes with three other students gaining employment locally through work placements.

“It really highlights the fact that TAFE NSW helps students become job ready with practical skills, experience and industry connections.”
