In the lead up to World Conservation Day tomorrow (28 July), locals considering a more ‘sustainable’ career are encouraged to look to TAFE NSW.

Demand for skilled professionals in the conservation sector is growing, with the occupation of park rangers is forecast to grow by 8.4% in NSW over the three years to 2024-25, and the occupation of environmental scientist is forecast to grow by 8%.

There has never been a more urgent need to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation to ecosystems, in this the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem restoration 2021-2030.

TAFE NSW students are taking the step to get qualified now so they can become our regions next biodiversity conservation warriors.

Anthony Parello is studying a Certificate in Conservation and Ecosystem Management and is currently employed at the Department of Planning as a Senior Contracts Officer. Anthony said the course is helping him greatly in his work.

While the new federal government is yet to announce their climate policy, the strong pro-climate vote this election means an ambitious policy will be needed. As we await announcements on the details of climate policy and funding, Applied Environmental Management Head Teacher Agata Mitchell said now is the time to get qualified.

“As the climate has warmed, a new pattern of more frequent and more intense weather events has unfolded around the world. As floods and bushfires continue to impact our regions, organisations have a need to invest in qualified conservation and sustainability focused workforces. 

“Environmental management within an organisation not only benefits the environment, it can also be good for business through cost savings, business reputation, resource recovery and legal compliance. This means TAFE NSW graduates are in high demand.”
