Talyn McNeill enthusiastically receives three TAFE NSW Excellence Awards

9 April 2019

TAFE Digital student Talyn McNeill, a Worrigee resident, has been recognised for her academic achievement and positive work ethic at the TAFE NSW Excellence Awards in Ryde last night.

Mrs McNeill, who completed a Certificate III in Tourism, a Certificate III in Events, a Diploma of Events and most recently a Certificate IV in Travel and Tourism online with TAFE Digital in 2018, was announced as the winner of three prestigious awards – namely, Student of the Year; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year; and Tourism and Experience Services Student of the Year, at a gala awards ceremony at TAFE NSW Ryde.

TAFE Digital General Manager, Megan Aitken, commended Mrs McNeill for the commitment and dedication she has shown to her studies.

Mrs Aitken said, “I have no doubt these students will go on to forge highly successful careers and will be wonderful ambassadors for online learning and TAFE NSW. As a TAFE Digital student, our students all study online, at a time convenient to them, through their mobile or laptop, anytime during the day. Students can access teacher support or complete the studies on their own, at their own pace, which gives them great flexibility in their training and education.”

Mrs McNeill mastered the Galileo Global Distribution System, and she showed an excellent understanding of constructing normal and promotional airfares. These units are difficult to learn face-to-face but deliver greater challenges to students learning by distance – she worked really hard on these units and this was reflected in the quality of her assessments.”

She exudes positive energy and enthusiasm and is passionate about the travel and tourism industry. She is highly focused, determined to do well, and was actively engaged with her teachers in order to optimise her learning experience. These characteristics will ensure that Mrs McNeill achieves her dream of working in this fast paced, ever-evolving industry.

Mrs McNeill, who is proud of her Wonnarua tribe heritage said, “I am honoured to have received these awards. Learning is something I have always enjoyed – add continuous learning about an industry I’m passionate about into the mix and you have someone who’s enthralled with the many moving parts of the Travel and Tourism Sector.”
