Tasty Treat for TAFE NSW students

TAFE NSW Tamworth hospitality students will gain valuable hands-on experience when they cook for part of the Tamworth Junior Business Chamber’s Progressive Dinner this Thursday.

Six Certificate III Patisserie students will put their skills to the test, producing a range of delectable desserts to serve participants at The Welder’s Dog as they top off what is bound to be a great evening of fine dining at some of Tamworth’s best restaurants.

TAFE NSW Hospitality Head Teacher, Matthew McAllister, said: “Our students are extremely talented. They’ve been working very hard on a delicious range of desserts and are very much looking forward to showing off their skills.

“Being involved in the Progressive Dinner also provides TAFE NSW students with an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, with paying customers. The skills they will learn from an event like this are extremely beneficial to their development.

“I believe this also demonstrates just some of the exciting, real-life and hands-on learning opportunities that are available for people who chose to study with Australia’s largest training provider - TAFE NSW.”

Tamworth Junior Business Chamber’s committee member and event organiser, Sarah Martin, said the event was essentially a fun-filled ‘dinner crawl’ with a theme of ‘paddock to plate’.

“The event fits in with Taste Tamworth and all of the fun events that are happening during the week. It’s a great excuse to come along, meet new people, catch up with friends, make new connections and indulge in some really great local food provided by Hopscotch, the Tudor Hotel, The Welder’s Dog and of course the TAFE NSW Patisserie students.

“Highlights of the evening will be the Hunter Belle Cheese and homemade Greek Basil Pickle Relish at Hopscotch Restaurant & Bar, a dish of Piallamore Beef three ways at the Tudor Hotel and a local ale, some cheese, and desserts provided by TAFE NSW students at The Welder’s Dog.

“The Chamber thought what better way to celebrate local food and produce than to have our local TAFE NSW students participate? We like to highlight and celebrate the amazing variety of things that Tamworth has to offer and we’re really excited that TAFE NSW has agreed to join us for this event.”

The progressive dinner is on this Thursday, beginning with entrees and drinks at Hopscotch Restaurant & Bar at 5.30pm. For information or make a booking, visit https://www.tamworth.org.au/events/upcoming-events/2019-junior-chamber-progressive-dinner/
