The Narrandera community has had a glimpse into the future of education and training in the district at a series of successful Connected Learning Centre (CLC) “taster” events at TAFE NSW Narrandera.

Floristry, visual arts, early childhood education, hospitality and horticulture were all showcased at the events held over recent months, with each event drawing up to 30 locals.

Fee Smith, TAFE Services Coordinator at TAFE NSW Narrandera, said the events highlighted how TAFE NSW was using modern, digitally-enabled technology to offer a wider range of  choices to the community.

“We wanted to raise community awareness about what this amazing Connected Learning Centre could offer locals and the further training that a short course could lead to,” Ms Smith said.

“The CLC has ensured locals have more courses to choose from and more career options to explore.

“You don’t have to leave your community to receive first-rate training and education.

Ms Smith said TAFE NSW was eager to engage with learners from across the age spectrum, particularly those that weren’t suited to traditional schooling.

“TAFE NSW is an adult learning environment so it plays such a critical role in rural communities like ours, especially for those that didn’t fit into the school environment,” she said.

“I’m looking forward to engaging with locals to showcase how the amazing facilities at TAFE NSW Narrandera can help them reskill or upskill.”

“Many people have some sort of barrier to enrolling in further education and I’m focused on helping them identify that and move past it,” Ms Smith said. “There is so much support here at TAFE NSW Narrandera and we really are invested in supporting local industry and helping locals find jobs.”

Ms Smith said a host of new short courses were currently open for enrolment, including courses in accidental counselling, RSA/RCG, food safety, first aid and white card.

Locals who haven’t yet visited the CLC can drop in and see the future of education firsthand.
