INDUSTRY DEMAND

Employers in Australia require their workers to have good reading and writing skills, as well as basic technology skills. This course will allow you to gain these foundational skills. You will be able to confidently apply these skills while looking at meaningful employment or study pathways.

To make sure this is the appropriate course level for you, you will need to participate in a phone interview with one of our teaching staff.

WORK PLACEMENT

Depending on the electives you choose, work placement with a suitable industry employer will be required.

Work placement provides you with opportunities to practise responding to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment.

You may complete your placement in an environment that interests you. Your teacher will prepare you for the work environment and support you to find the placement and undertake the work activities.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

  • Prior to enrolment, you will be required to complete a student interview and screen. A suitable time will be organised for you to speak to a teacher who will conduct this inverview and screen.

During 2021, construction of the new Meadowbank Education & Employment Precinct will be undertaken at TAFE NSW Meadowbank. There may be some disruption to students during that time, including noise, dust, vibration and changes to campus parking. TAFE NSW is focussed on minimising any disruption to students, where practicable. Contact us on 131601 for any questions.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a Flexible, Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 4.5 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 18 weekss. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 4.5 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 11 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including Students are encouraged to make use of all opportunities at home, in the workplace and in the community to develop and consolidate their LLN skills eg.

If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID-19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30am to 2:30pm for 18 weeks. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
