INDUSTRY DEMAND
Employers in Australia require their workers to have good reading and writing skills, as well as basic technology skills. This course will allow you to gain these foundational skills. You will be able to confidently apply these skills while looking at meaningful employment or study pathways.

WORK PLACEMENT
Depending on the electives you choose, work placement with a suitable industry employer will be required.
Work placement provides you with opportunities to practise responding to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment.
You may complete your placement in an environment that interests you. Your teacher will prepare you for the work environment and support you to find the placement and undertake the work activities.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a Flexible Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 9 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 17 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 4 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete approximately 11 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including supported study time in the learning centre, Independent study time in the learning centre, Access to purchased software on computers in the learning centre, Websites developed specifically for LLN learners, Specific LLN resources in the TAFE library including low level readers and textbooks, Guides for the use of technology (smartphones and tablets) as learning tools.
Students may be co-enrolled in Learner Support to provide additional help.
Students are also encouraged to make use of all opportunities at home and in the community to develop and consolidate their LLN skills eg
Watching TV/listening to the radio/searching the internet, Reading magazines, brochures, leaflets, newspapers, Practising English conversation with shopkeepers and other community members, Practising skills at work, Volunteering in a situation that will involve use of English LLN.
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for students in the Sydney Region have either LLN or learning/study difficulties that prevent them fulfilling work or study goals or participating to their fullest potential in the community. They are of various ages and come from a range of backgrounds, the majority non-English speaking. Some are recent migrants to Australia others have lived and worked here for many years but not had the chance to gain an education in English and others were born here but have not yet gained adequate foundation skills. In addition, some existing workers require additional foundation skills to be able to participate in workplace training, satisfactorily perform their workplace duties or apply for promotional positions.

We have also modified our face to face classes to meet spatial distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. As restrictions ease, the way you attend your class may change again. This course is currently scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30am to 2:30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
