Course Details

The Certificate I in Access to Work Training is a nationally accredited course that will introduce you to formal education. You will build your confidence in a supportive environment, gain learning skills and set goals for further study or your future career.


Through theoretical and practical course work, you will learn to:

  • Progress your reading and writing
  • Communicate effectively
  • Set up your career goals
  • Plan projects
  • Participate in the workplace
  • Follow work, health and safety rules
  • Use tools and equipment found in the workplace


Develop the skills that will help you get ahead, including:

  • Good communication
  • Problem solving
  • An ability to work in a team


Completing this course will provide you with:

  • A nationally accredited qualification at Certificate I level
  • A strong pathway to continue your studies or secure meaningful employment


Develop you knowledge further with the Certificate II in Study Skills.


Employers in Australia require their workers to have good reading and writing skills, as well as basic technology skills. This course will allow you to gain these foundational skills, and become employable across multiple industries while feeling supported and confident in your abilities.

Teachers will support you to read, write and use technology. They will also help prepare you for practical activities and assessment tasks.


Students are required to contact Career Pathways & Employability Teaching Section on 9710 5004 to arrange an interview and complete a questionnaire to determine 10583NAT is the appropriate course of study.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • To attend all timetabled classes, fully participate in the course and successfully complete 14 assessments. You can expect to do an additional 28 hours, approximately, a week of self-directed study which may include: research, written tasks, online tasks, pre-reading tasks and/or workplace activity.


There are no information sessions currently scheduled for this course.


This is a Full Time, face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 16 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 14 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 28 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, work experience and research.


This course is designed for women who have experienced barriers engaging in vocational education training, employment or in the community.


Gain skills for employment through upskilling or reskilling to current employment standards in technology.
This course is for women returning to the workforce, who want to build confidence and skills for employment.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday from 9.30am to 4.00pm, Wednesday and Thursday from 9.30am to 3.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.


This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
