Course Details

This course is intended to provide participants with the following general education outcomes:

  • English language proficiency of Level 2+ on the ISLPR scale.

  • English language proficiency to undertake qualifications requiring proficiency of ISLPR 2+, IELTS 5 or CEFR B1+ on entry, which provide a pathway to access employment, training and community participation.

  • English language entry requirement to TAFE NSW courses requiring IELTS 5 at entry.

When you study with TAFE NSW, we want you to succeed. Entry requirements allow us to make sure that you have the right pre-existing knowledge and skills to achieve your chosen qualification. You will need to provide evidence that you meet the requirements listed in this section.

There are no essential entry requirements or limitations for this course.

Entrants should have:

  • a minimum English language proficiency of ISLPR 2, IELTS 4.5 or CEFR B1 across all skill levels of Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing

  • a proposed study pathway

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

  • Your USI (or ID such as Medicare card/Driver's licence to help you create one from www.usi.gov.au). Proof of Australian PR or Citizen status for S&S course subsidy (entitlement fee); otherwise full commercial fee will be charged.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • To achieve competency in all assessment events in speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 20 hours of class, over 4 days a week, for 18 weeks. You may also be required to complete approximately 19 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including self study to revise and reinforce areas of knowledge; completing written assignments and assessments; conducting research to complete assignments; writing information reports, biographies, explanations, descriptions; reading narratives for pleasure; listening to radio, podcasts, television, movies, music, DVDs, chats, YouTube; using Moodle.

  • This course is for learners whose language background is other than English and who need to obtain English language proficiency of Level 2 on the ISLPR? scale, Level 4 on the ACSF or IELTS 4.5. This course is currently scheduled on 4 days, Monday to Thursday from 9.30am to 3.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
