Course Details

The purpose of the course is to prepare learners to mentor Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples in order to support employment outcomes. The course is aimed at Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous learners who may be interested in mentoring Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

This course is intended to provide learners with the following vocational outcomes:

  • the addition of a mentoring role to the learners current employment
  • a role as a workplace or community mentor

The Certificate III in Mentoring Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People will benefit Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and the broader community by supporting access to employment and employment retention for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

When you study with TAFE NSW, we want you to succeed. Entry requirements allow us to make sure that you have the right pre-existing knowledge and skills to achieve your chosen qualification. You will need to provide evidence that you meet the requirements listed in this section.

There are no essential entry requirements for this course.

It is recommended that students have sufficient maturity and work or life experience to enable them to mentor Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander people, within organisational and regulatory requirements.

The target audience for this delivery are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people who may be interested in mentoring Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 40 hours of class, over 5 days a week, for 15 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 5 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including revision of study notes and practice skills in language, learning, team participation, digital literacy, communication, workplace protocols and ethics, Aboriginal culture as well as mentorship preparation for the community or workplace organisation.

This course is currently scheduled on 5 days, Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

You may be eligible for a concession and/or exemption. This will be confirmed during the enrolment process.

FULLY GOVERNMENT SUBSIDISED

This course is fully government-subsidised for eligible students, meaning you will not have to pay any course fees. It is part of a program to help people develop the skills they need to get a job, undertake entry level qualifications or transition to a new job.

If you are not eligible for subsidised training, you can still choose to enrol in the course but will need to pay the full (non-subsidised) fee.
