Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • Work experience provides you with exposure to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment.

  • You may be offered the opportunity to learn language on Country. This will be up to your individual language groups as Aboriginal Cultural Protocols must be strictly followed.

  • If the opportunity arises, students will gain invaluable learning experiences that are unique to individual Country. Learning on Country puts Aboriginal Languages into context and adds value to its meaning.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate II in Basic Aboriginal Languages for Social Use qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 5 Units of competency, including 4 core and 1 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

  • Develop knowledge of local Aboriginal Identity and its link to Languages ABLCLT201

  • Develop basic listening and speaking skills in an Aboriginal Language ABLLNG201

  • Develop basic reading and writing skills in an Aboriginal Language ABLLNG202

  • Produce basic resources for learning an Aboriginal Language ABLLRN201

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.

Dubbo

TAFE NSW Dubbo is housed over two centrally located campuses: the Myall Street campus and the Narromine Road campus.TAFE NSW Dubbo specialises in agriculture, heavy and light vehicles, hairdressing and beauty therapy, construction and nursing courses. The Myall Street campus also houses the Yarradamarra Centre for Aboriginal programs such as performing arts and languages.
