Course Details

Practice your English speaking, listening, reading and writing with the nationally accredited Certificate I in Spoken and Written English. You will learn how to use basic English in many settings to improve your communication skills.

  • Learners entering this course are identified as Elementary learners of English language
  • You will be required to complete a placement test to determine your correct English level

BE PREPARED

To be prepared for this course, it is recommended that you come to class regularly and practice speaking English at home.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • to attend an initial assessment prior to enrolment to determine the minimum entry point against the International Second Language Proficiency Rating (ISLPR) scale is 1- across the four macroskills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The minimum entry point against the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) is Pre-Level B.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full-time, blended delivery course. You will need to attend approximately 20 hours of class, over 4 days a week, for 18 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 4 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 8 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, work experience and research.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00am to 2:30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
