Course Details

Develop your English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills with the Certificate III in Spoken and Written English. If English is your second language, this course is for you. You will learn how to use formal and informal English to improve your study and employment options.

  • International Second Language Proficiency rating (ISLPR) scale: 2+ across listening, speaking, reading and writing
  • Australian Core Skill Framework (ACSF): Level 2

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:
An Australian citizen. Permanent Residents and other eligible visa holders can apply to enrol in this course. For more information about visa eligibility, students can contact Customer Service at a local TAFE Campus.

INFORMATION SESSIONS

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part time face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 10 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 36 weeks. As well as the in-class component, there is 6 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 15 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including homework, practising language skills through authentic spoken and written communication in the community and accessing computer rooms and libraries.

This course offering is designed for people who:

  • have English as an Additional Language (EAL) including migrants, refugees and other cohorts from non-English speaking backgrounds. Classes may contain mainstream students and also Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) contract students.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday and Wednesday from 9.00am to 2.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
