IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

This course offering is designed for people who:
were unable to undertake study to achieve a NSW Higher School Certificate or need to improve on their HSC result. The course provides an alternate entry pathway to universities. Universities recognise the TES as an alternative to the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) issued by NSW High Schools as the university entrance mark. A TES is calculated and issued on completion
This course delivers academic pathway and study skills that underpin the acquisition of higher education qualifications, enabling access to a wide range of careers and opportunities.

The STEM units in the course focus on both the acquisition of functional skills and the knowledge associated with academic rigour. The mathematics units are theoretically based and prepare students for higher order mathematical thinking at a university level. The science units in the course provide the underpinning skills required to undertake further study at a university or equivalent. They include knowledge acquisition and skills for undertaking scientific experimentation and research.
The English units in the course have a literary focus. Skills developed include literary analysis, critical thinking, ability to effectively interact with the media, and language analysis skills required for tertiary study. The units prepare students to undertake academic essay writing, presentations, critical reading, and the ability to engage with academic texts and literature.

This qualification seeks to provide opportunities for people who have been educationally disadvantaged, workers seeking advancement or career change, and people seeking access to higher VET or university studies, particularly in STEM related courses. These training needs cannot be met by any current training package qualifications.
