The nationally accredited Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation will prepare you for Diploma level and university study or entry into the Australian Defence Force. Recognised by educators and employers as an alternative pathway to Year 12, you will develop the technical, social and academic skills needed to perform at the next level of study.

TRAINING PACKAGE REQUIREMENTS

TAFE NSW REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for this course, you must:

  • Undertake literacy and numeracy screening and achieve ACSF Level 3 or above
  • Participate in an interview with a teacher to make sure this is the right course for you

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification.

WORK PLACEMENT

There is no work placement requirement for this qualification.

COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This accredited course has no essential entry requirements. Students undertake the LLN screening through BKSB (RUReady), participate in an interview to assess oral communication, learning strategies and motivation, and complete a writing task prior to entry. BKSB identifies the student's Reading and Numeracy ACSF levels. It is recommended that students be working within or above Level 3 for both areas. Students achieving Level 2 can still undertake the course, particularly when their demonstrated strengths align with the skills required in their nominated elective streams. Students with LLN needs can access targeted support assessed on a needs basis. Assessment of maths skills occurs during the first lesson, if maths electives have been chosen. If maths levels are not suitable, students are directed into more appropriate unit selections.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • to complete 12 units of study including four compulsory units - PFSEGL001 Research and write academic text, TPCEGL001 Produce written and spoken texts for further study purposes, FSKNUM21 Apply an expanding range of mathematical calculations for work and FSKDIG03 Use digital technology for routine workplace tasks.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a flexible blended course. You will need to attend approximately 25 hours of class, over 4 days a week, for 36 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 9 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, research and assessment preparation.

This course offering is designed for people who:

  • returning to study after several years in the workforce, or
  • young people who have had disrupted education through high school and would like to achieve a Year 12 equivalent, entry into a diploma level and above in the VET sector or entry into the Australian Defence Force.
  • may not have completed high school or are returning to study as a mature age student.

Students enrolling in this course have already completed 10769NAT Certificate III in Pathways to Further study and will receive auto credits for those equivalent units.
