ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. You can enrol now.

However, to be eligible for the 6-month and on-campus course, and the TAFE Digital course you must provide evidence that you have completed the Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology (Networking stream), or equivalent course.

Traineeship
TAFE NSW also offers the Certificate IV in Cyber Security as a traineeship. To be eligible to enrol as a trainee, you must:

  • Meet the above entry requirements
  • Be employed in the IT industry as this course is delivered in the workplace.
  • Have a signed traineeship contract

COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS

During your study, you need to meet requirements necessary for you to complete your coursework and work experience. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:

  • A National Police Check
  • A signed ethical conduct agreement

WORK EXPERIENCE

Work experience is not mandatory; however, you have the opportunity to undertake 1 week of work experience in an industry workplace. You are responsible for arranging your own work experience. Our SkillsTeam can assist you.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

This course content is considered high risk; the teaching of it operates within a wider framework of the law and TAFE NSW policies. There are inherent laws relating to cyber security including the Cybercrime Act 2001 and the Spam Act 2003 (Cth), with the Cybercrime Act (Cth) criminalising computer and internet related activities such as hacking, spreading viruses and website vandalism.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • A basic understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems
  • A basic understanding of networking protocols, configuration of routers and switches
  • Intermediate literacy and numeracy skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you:

  • Transcript of Academic Achievement of Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology (Networking Stream) OR,
  • Letter of Confirmation from employer of 1 year recent employment in a Networking role.
  • have completed a National Police Certificate (Criminal History Check)
  • have signed an Ethical Conduct Agreement
  • are a resident of NSW

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is an online course. You will need to complete approximately 16 hours of online study, each week, for your enrolment duration of 1 year.
You can increase the hours of online study per week to complete the course sooner.

You can also expect to complete approximately 5 hours of additional study each week outside of online study hours, including direct one-to-one contact via email and phone; assignment preparation and research.

  • have experience in networking and
  • are seeking to gain further skills in Cyber Security.

Sound knowledge of networking, computer hardware and operating systems is recommended.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
