Materials needed

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • This training is not subsidised by Government funding. There are no fee exemptions, concessions or subsidies available for this course.

    Full payment of course fee must be made 3 days prior to the c;ass.
    Refund of the course fee is only due in the following circumstances:
    - TAFE NSW has cancelled the course you were enrolled in, or
    - You formally advise the campus in writing at least 7 days prior to the start of your course that you are withdrawing .

    In any other circumstances full or partial refund of the course fee is at the discretion of the campus delegate.

    NOTE : If you are coming from interstate or overseas, please ensure that you book your flight/accodation on a fully refundable basis.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to provide evidence that you:

    • hold an AMSA issued Certificate of Competency (Master, Deck and Engineer Officers), Integrated Rating, Able Seafarer Deck & Engine and meets the mandatory Sea Survival and Fire Fighting continued competency requirements for Seafarers with qualifying sea service.
    • are an existing workers aiming to revalidate their license
    • are a recreational boat owner/operators, yachting crew, deckhands, IR’s and ER personnel
  • It is also designed to meet the mandatory Sea Survival and Fire Fighting continued competence requirements for current Seafarers with qualifying sea service. This course is suitable for current seafarers who meet the revalidation qualifying sea service requirements and hold one of the following certificates:

  • a) Certificates of competency (Master, Deck and Engineer officers) and Certificates of proficiency as Chief integrated rating

  • b) Certificates of proficiency as rating (Deck and Engine) excluding Chief integrated rating

  • c) Certificates of safety training

  • The following certificate will be issued to participants who successfully complete the course:

  • Sea Survival and Fire Fighting Continued Competence for holders of Certificates of Competency (Master, Deck and Engineer Officers) and Certificate of Proficiency as Chief Integrated Rating (AMSA approved). Meeting the relevant competencies from:

    • Personal Survival Techniques – STCW Table A-VI/1-1.
    • Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting – STCW Table A-VI/1-2.
    • Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats – STCW Table A-VI/2-1.
    • Advanced Fire Fighting – STCW Table VI/3.
  • To successfully complete this course, you will need:

    • 100% attendance
    • Full participation and completion of all practical exercises

Important details

What you need to know about this course:

  • An important next step is to attend orientation and your first day of class on Tuesday 15 February 2022, from 8.00am to 4.00pm at Mines Rescue for Fire Practical, 533 Lakes Road, Argenton. Please bring this receipt to orientation. Light Lunch will be provided. Proper PPE, safety shoes, sunscreen must be worn for the fire practical.

    Timetable as follows:

    • Tuesday, 15 February, 2022 from 8.00am to 4.00pm for Fire Fighting practical at Mines Rescue, 533 Lakes Road, Argenton. (Light lunch will be provided at mines rescue)
    • Wednesday, 16 February, from 8.00am to 11.00am - Sea survival practical's at ACE Training Centre. 33, NANCY ELLIS LEEBOLD DRIVE, BANKSTOWN AERODROME. Condell Park.
      Transport will be arranged by bus from Bijou Lane (pick-up at 7.30 sharp at the back of Marcus Clarke Building)) to ACE Training Centre and drop back after practicals to Bijou Lane
    • Wednesday 16 February, from 12.30pm to 4.00pm for Lifeboat practical at Darling Harbour outside the museum.
      After the practicals you are to come to Ultimo Campus, Building W, Level 7, Room W7.39 for theory recap and assessment to complete the course.
      Proper PPE must be worn at all practicals. Maps and directions will be sent by email before the course begins.
