Course Details

This one day workshop in Mental Health Awareness is aimed at those currently working in the health and community services sector and other similar sectors. This training will offer an understanding on how mental health can affect the lives of individuals and communities and provides a framework in which to respond.

When you study with TAFE NSW, we want you to succeed. Entry requirements allow us to make sure that you have the right pre-existing knowledge and skills to achieve your chosen qualification. You will need to provide evidence that you meet the requirements listed in this section.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part-time day connected learning course. You will need to attend approximately 4 hours of class delivered via connected classroom, over 1 day.

This course is offered by Connected Classroom. This is just like a regular classroom, but teachers and students use the latest video conferencing technologies.

Your teacher can be in one TAFE location, and you can join the class from another TAFE location using video conferencing equipment or a mobile device. You can also join in from a venue in a participating regional community. You will be able to see and talk to your teacher and other students as though they were in the room with you. You will also have access to support to meet your learning needs.

This course offering is designed for people who:

  • May benefit from insights into how mental health can affect the lives of individuals and communities, while providing a response framework.

Participants will explore different mental illness understandings, as well as strategies for creating environments that promote good mental health, while also providing insight into services that support recovery and lived experiences.

Participants will learn:

  • About the mental health spectrum
  • The signs, symptoms and features of common mental health disorders
  • About the different types of support available with the community

This short course is offered by Connected Classroom (also known as Virtual Classroom). Teachers and students can present course materials, engage and interact with one another, and work in small groups together, all as though they were in the room with you. Sessions are hosted on Microsoft Teams. This provides all the benefits of classroom workshops working with other students, asking questions with immediate answers from teachers and peers, and encouraging deeper discussions and learning with the flexibility of online learning, as well as enabling us to provide training to a much wider range of communities and people.

The way you learn may change during your enrolment to ensure the best learning experience or to keep you safe as COVID-19 restrictions change, and some of our face to face classes may change to online or virtual classroom learning. Also, to ensure that we keep you safe while studying, we may modify our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This is a Connected Learning course. This means you will join your teacher and other students in a virtual classroom and will participate in learning activities via video or web conferencing technology. Depending on the course, you may be able to join the class from your local TAFE NSW campus, or from anywhere with a good internet connection, such as your home. Much like a regular class, you will have scheduled times of attendance. The specific attendance requirements for this course are below.

This course is currently scheduled via connected classrooms on Wednesday 8 September 2021 from 10.00am to 2.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

This training is not subsidised by Government funding. There are no fee exemptions, concessions or subsidies available for this course.
