Course Details

This course is for people who already hold an Australian GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) certificate but have been out of the field for a long period.

You will update your knowledge to be able to operate and maintain the existing as well as recently developed communications equipment required in the GMDSS.

When you study with TAFE NSW, we want you to succeed. Entry requirements allow us to make sure that you have the right pre-existing knowledge and skills to achieve your chosen qualification. You will need to provide evidence that you meet the requirements listed in this section.

This course is for the people who hold an Australian GMDSS Certificate and have at least 12 months sea service on GMDSS equipped ships in the last 5 years since obtaining GMDSS certificate.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence:

To revalidate a GMDSS Certificate of Recognition (GMDSS CoR), the holder, prior to application must first revalidate their primary GMDSS Radio Operators certificate with the issuing Administration with which AMSA has an agreement.

Applicants should note that the requirements for revalidation of a GMDSS CoR are the same as for holders of an AMSA GMDSS Radio Operators certificate, and in some cases this may require the satisfactory completion of a GMDSS revalidation course in Australia. For further information, please refer to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
