Course Details

Do you need to learn English? Do you want to get a job, or study in Australia? The Statement of Attainment in Beginner English is for people with very limited English.

The course will teach you beginner English language skills, to allow you to begin to effectively communicate in English in a wide range of situations.

Choose flexible study options to study at a pace you can be comfortable with. As with all English language and ESL courses, we do require you to attend an interview to help us make sure the subject content is right for you.

It is important that you contact your local TAFE NSW campus and discuss this course with us before enrolling.

This nationally recognised training will give you a good start in work and study, opening up opportunities that are not available without basic English skills.
There are no formal educational requirements for this course.

The course is designed for people who have a minimum English language proficiency of 0+ on the International Second Language Proficiency Ratings (ISLPR) scale, or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 1 or equivalent.
Prospective students must attend a placement session, where the teachers will assess their English language skills.

To prepare for the assessment you will need:
* A Unique Student Identifier (USI) - to create a USI you will need a drivers licence, passport, an Imm. card or a Medicare card
* An email address
* A photo identification card or document - a drivers licence or passport

Please contact Customer Service on 13 7974 to make an appointment for a placement session.

Once you have started in this class it is expected that you will complete at least 10-20 hours per week out of class on extra activities to help your learning. For example, speaking English with friends and family, reading newspapers and stories, using the internet, completing homework activities and using English when at the supermarket or coffee shop.
Proposed attendance: Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00am to 2:30pm, 10 hours per week for 18 weeks (one Semester). Learners are expected to complete learning activities outside of class time.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience your fee may decrease from the maximum shown.
Payment by instalment may also be available. Your fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

A fee applies for most TAFE NSW courses and must be paid when you enrol. The amount you pay depends on the type of course you study, and on your personal circumstances.
Please contact 13 7974 for further information.

The training is part of the NSW Government Smart and Skilled Targeted Priorities Pre-vocational and Part Qualifications program.

You may be eligible for FEE Free study if you meet the following Smart and Skilled Eligibility criteria:

* 15 years or older
* have left school
* live or work in New South Wales
* are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen
* You must have a USI (Unique Student Identifier)

To proceed with your application and to determine your eligibility and course fee, select the Apply Now button below. Alternatively go to TAFE NSW Wetherill Park or contact us on 13 7974.

The Commonwealth requires all VET students to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI), and access to government subsidised courses depends on this. Information regarding USI and instructions on how to get your USI are available here www.usi.gov.au. When you have it, keep it with your other personal details so you will have it at enrolment.
