Course Details

Do you need to learn English? Do you want to get a job, or study in Australia? The Statement of Attainment in Beginner English is for people with very limited English.

The course will teach you beginner English language skills, to allow you to begin to effectively communicate in English in a wide range of situations.

Choose flexible study options to study at a pace you can be comfortable with. As with all English language and ESL courses, we do require you to attend an interview to help us make sure the subject content is right for you.

It is important that you contact your local TAFE NSW campus and discuss this course with us before enrolling.

This nationally recognised training will give you a good start in work and study, opening up opportunities that are not available without basic English skills.

When you study with TAFE NSW, we want you to succeed. Entry requirements allow us to make sure that you have the right pre-existing knowledge and skills to achieve your chosen qualification. You will need to provide evidence that you meet the requirements listed in this section.

There are no formal educational requirements for this course.

The course is designed for people who have a minimum English language proficiency of 0+ on the International Second Language Proficiency Ratings (ISLPR) scale, or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 1 or equivalent.

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Part Time Day Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 6 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 17 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 3 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including As well as their face to face learning, students are provided with resources and other study opportunities including:

  • Supported study time in the Study Centre
  • Independent study time in the Study Centre
  • Moodles as appropriate for each delivery
  • Access to purchased software on computers in the learning centre

    This course offering is designed for people who:
  • have English as an Additional Language (EAL) including migrants and refugees from CALD (Culturally And Linguistically Diverse) backgrounds. Learners are absolute beginners in English, possibly with remedial learning needs arising from limited or disrupted schooling.

To keep you safe while studying, some of our face to face classes may be replaced with online or connected learning. We have also modified our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. As restrictions ease, the way you attend your class may change again. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID-19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled on Wednesdays and Thursday from 9:30am to 12:30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
