This specialist Statement of Attainment in Chainsaw Operations - Basic Tree Felling will help you master the art of safely felling, trimming and cross cutting basic trees with a chainsaw. With an emphasis on safety, you will be equipped with the knowledge to undertake both harvesting and non-commercial operations.

INDUSTRY DEMAND

The skills required to conduct safe chainsaw operations have become very important due to the increased focus on public land safety, as dead or burnt trees become more common.

**TRAINING PACKAGE REQUIREMENTS**

There are no Training Package entry requirements for this qualification.

TAFE NSW REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for this course, you should:

  • Complete a recognised First Aid Certificate that complies with industry requirements (i.e. Forestry Corporation of NSW, WorkCover) given the extremely dangerous nature of chainsaw operations
  • Have a high level of physical fitness and manual dexterity

BE PREPARED

To be prepared for this course, it is recommended that you have:

  • Good eye-hand coordination
  • Knowledge of First Aid
  • Spatial awareness
  • Manual dexterity

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

There are no occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements that apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

However, employers should have a workplace safety management plan that describes reaccreditation requirements (normally three years) wherever chainsaws are used.

Wear approriate clothing for agricultural work. Have a broad brimmed hat or cap, ear muffs, work gloves, sun glasses and a water bottle.

This course will give you competency-based training in the safe use of chainsaws for cutting timber and felling basic trees. You will learn to use a chainsaw in a safe and effective way to crosscut, rip, delimb and trim logs and felled trees and fell trees classified as simple, non-hazardous trees relative to local timber size and distribution.

A message for young people under 17 years of age - If you are under 17 years and wish to enrol you will need to have completed Year 10 or have special permission from school and TAFE to do so.

8 hrs for 2 consecutive days in a week.
