Course Details

This course provides the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work in NSW. On completion you will be able to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. The course covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

When you study with TAFE NSW, we want you to succeed. Entry requirements allow us to make sure that you have the right pre-existing knowledge and skills to achieve your chosen qualification. You will need to provide evidence that you meet the requirements listed in this section.

SafeWork NSW require all applicants undertaking this training to be a minimum of 14 years of age.

**COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS**

To successfully complete this course, you will need: - Sufficient language, literacy, numeracy at Level 1. - Be able to demonstrate use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment. - You must provide 100 points of identification at the start of the SafeWork (WorkCover) assessment including (1) form of current photo identification. To be able to attend the assessment you need to provide proof that you are over 14 years of age and that you live in NSW. A list of approved ID can be found on the SafeWork NSW website, www.safework.nsw.gov.au.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a face to face, part time day course. You will need to attend approximately 6 hours of class, over 1 day.

You may also be required to complete approximately 2 hours of additional study to fill out the Safe Work paperwork.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) support
TAFE NSW will make every reasonable effort to ensure that it can accommodate a learner?s Language, Literacy and Numeracy needs. Support is based on a review of the applicants LLN skills through written tasks and a one-on-one interview and if deemed applicable, a meeting will be arranged to discuss the LLN assistance that TAFE NSW can provide to the learner, with a view to creating an individual training and learning plan that best addresses the learner?s LLN needs.

Where learners are unable to undergo training and assessment due to a physical, hearing, vision, mental health/neurological or learning/intellectual disability, TAFE NSW Disability Teacher Consultants will develop an Individual Education Plan where reasonable adjustment is negotiated with the learner.
