Course Details

This unit of competency provides the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults. Aimed at educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies, this unit of competency may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011).

Specific licensing requirements, including requirements for refresher training, should be obtained from the Australian Childrens Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) and/or relevant state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authority.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • To pick up a textbook from your nearest TAFE campus at least 1 week prior to attending the course.
  • You will need to read the textbook and complete the self-assessment on pages 21, 41, 72 and 88. A bandage and sling will be provided at the training.

You must be able to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.

You must also complete a multiple choice knowledge assessment and a practical demonstration of common first aid scenarios on the day of the course.

STUDY COMMITMENT

Due to COVID-19 and the new social distancing requirements we have had to change our delivery for First Aid. There is now a requirement to complete an online pre-course component. Cut-off for completion of the online component is 48hrs prior to the course. This is mandatory!
Once you have enrolled, an email will be sent to you with 48hrs with instructions on how to access and complete the online component.
For the purpose of social distancing, on the day the course will be run in 2 sessions (am and pm). An SMS will be sent 24hrs prior the course to notify you which session you are required to attend.

This course offering is designed for people who are required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults. This may include educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

Refresher training in CPR should be undertaken annually and first aid qualifications should be renewed every three (3) years.

To keep you safe while studying, some of our face to face classes may be replaced with online or connected learning. We have also modified our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. As restrictions ease, the way you attend your class may change again. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID 19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled at TAFE NSW, Tenterfield Connected Learning Centre on Wednesday from 8.30am to 5.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

This training is not subsidised by Government funding. There are no fee exemptions, concessions or subsidies available for this course.

Payment of course fee must be made PRIOR to commencement of learning activity.

Please wear comfortable clothing, suitable for working on the floor during CPR demonstration of skill.
