Additional entry requirements

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • To successfully complete this course, you will need access to a real industry workplace with appropriate facilities to carry out micro-chipping. Students require:

    • Computer or similar device with internet connections.
    • Pen and paper.
    • Appropriate clothing for practical skills components of the Statement of Attainment such as closed shoes.
    • Personal Protective Equipment for practical skills and simulated workplace components of the Statement of Attainment.
  • Students must have an arrangement with a registered veterinary practitioner who is able to supervise the student’s practical components of the course. The registered veterinary practitioner must also be an Authorised Identifier / authorised implanter. These practical components can be conducted in a veterinary practice, local council, animal welfare organisation, or similar premises.

  • The TAFE NSW teacher must observe the microchip implantation of at least 1 live conscious dog and 1 live conscious cat – this can be through submission of video evidence by the student, or through direct physical observation by the TAFE NSW teacher during workplace visits. For the remaining animals that are microchip implanted, the TAFE NSW teacher must check and verify with the workplace supervising veterinarian that the microchip implantation records in the student’s Skills Log book are accurate – this can be done via phone, email or at the workplace location.
