You may be required to participate in a range of structured workshop activities that will allow you to practise your skills before you attempt your assessments.

There is no work placement for this qualification.

You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

• Computer or similar device with internet connections.

• Pen and paper.

Students are also expected to provide some of their own Personal Protective Equipment during the course. These PPE are:

• appropriate footwear such as closed shoes

• appropriate clothing such as full-length trousers and sleeved tops where required

To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

• Evidence of work placement arrangement

a. Students who are employed in a real workplace, such as an animal shelter, local council pound, veterinary practice or animal welfare organisation, can enrol at any time into the course. Students must provide evidence that they are employed, such as a letter from the employer. Students must also have an agreement with a registered veterinary practitioner who is able to supervise the students implanting microchips in a number of conscious animals. The veterinary practitioner must also be an Authorised Identifier / authorised implanter.

b. Students who are not employed in a real workplace must have a work placement arrangement with a registered veterinary practitioner, before they can enrol into the course. Students must provide evidence of the arrangement, such as a letter from the veterinary practitioner. The veterinary practitioner is required to supervise the students implanting microchips in a number of conscious animals and must also be an Authorised Identifier / authorised implanter.

Students who are unable to provide evidence of employment or work placement arrangement will not be allowed to enrol into the course.

Students whose employment or work placement arrangements are made unavailable during the course will be assisted by the Skills Team to find other suitable work placements. If such other suitable work placements are unavailable, the Skills Team will discuss possible options for the student, such as submitting a request to TAFE NSW to extend the student’s completion date of the course in consideration of the student’s circumstances. Such requests will be considered by TAFE NSW on a case-by-case basis.
