Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: multiple-choice questions

  • Practical skills assessments: demonstrations under observation such as basic life support, first aid incident responses eg burns haemorrhage, managing illnesses and injuries (diabetes, a bee sting and more)

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • To complete the practical assessments, you must have:

    • The physical ability to provide resuscitation by kneeling on the floor and performing chest compressions for 2 minutes uninterrupted, on both an adult and infant manikin.
    • To complete the knowledge assessment the student must be able to: read, listen and understand course material written in English, write a written Incident Report in English and listen to the instructions of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) where prompts are delivered in English.

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Statement of Attainment in Apply First Aid and CPR qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 2 units of competency, including 2 core and 0 speciality units.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
