Course Details

This qualification is a general industry qualification for persons operating at pre-trade level and undertaking animal care functions in a captive animal facility or institution.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. However, an individual unit of competency may specify relevant licensing, legislative and/or regulatory requirements. Specific determination should be sought through the relevant State or Territory.

There are no Training Package entry requirements for this qualification.

The target learner group includes people that have already completed Cert II in Animal Studies or have higher animal related qualifications and have a minimum of 8 hours placement in a suitable Zoo or wildlife park.

Job roles covered by this qualification may include: Trainee keeper, Pre-trade keeper, Assistant keeper, Animal care attendant, Wildlife animal carer.

INFORMATION SESSIONS

There are no information sessions currently scheduled for this course.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Full time face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 12.5 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 36 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 14 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 8 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, research and assessment preparation.

This course is currently scheduled on Tuesday, from 9.00am to 5.30pm and Friday, from 8.00am to 4.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
