Course Details

This qualification is a general industry qualification for persons operating at pre-trade level and undertaking animal care functions in a captive animal facility or institution.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. However, an individual unit of competency may specify relevant licensing, legislative and/or regulatory requirements. Specific determination should be sought through the relevant State or Territory.

There are no Training Package entry requirements for this qualification.

It is assumed that you have literacy and numeracy skills at Cert II level for success in this course. Contact your TAFE NSW campus if you have any questions about your suitability.

This is a high demand course, therefore an application process is required. - Applicants will need to have successfully completed ACM20117 Certificate II in Animal Studies (or equivalent) prior to applying for this course. - Applicants need to have secured a minimum of 8 hours per week work placement in a suitable captive animal care facility for the duration of the course. - Applicants need to complete the current Animal Care application form, which includes LLN skills questions. - Applications are screened by the Head Teacher. Applicant is advised of the outcome within 5 working days of receiving the application.


To successfully complete this course, you will need: - A minimum of 8 hours per week work placement in a suitable captive animal facility for the duration of the course. Applicants must provide a work placement confirmation letter in support of their application form. The workplace must be appropriate to the course requirements (captive animal enterprise) and must be approved by the Head Teacher. TAFE NSW will provide safety and information documents to the student and workplace prior to commencement. - Access to a computer and internet service for carrying out self-paced study and covered in footwear for practical training.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time, face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 12 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 36 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 14 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 6 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including revision and assignment preparation.

This course offering is designed for people who are: -International students on a study visa (who may or may not have prior animal care experience), who have a desire to learn the knowledge and skills of an animal attendant role, working within a captive animal facility. Learners are expected to have LLN skills between levels 2-3 of the AQF standard.
