Course Details

This qualification is for persons operating within an organisation that provides professional pet grooming services. A pet grooming attendant undertakes salon reception and housekeeping duties as well as bathing, brushing, trimming and other basic grooming services for domestic pets, usually dogs and in some cases cats. The duties require patience and a genuine empathy for animals, excellent customer service skills as well as high standards of cleanliness and professionalism.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. However, an individual unit of competency may specify relevant licensing, legislative and/or regulatory requirements. Specific determination should be sought through the relevant State or Territory.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are: - Learners to arrange their own work placement of at least 8 hours per week in a grooming salon before enrolments. Learners to send a letter or email from their work placement facility to confirm work placement arrangements, hours and a supervisor?s contact details before completing enrolment.
Learners to send a copy of their transcript showing completion of Certificate II Animal Studies or higher animal care qualification to Christina Onate at christina.onate3@tafensw.edu.au


To successfully complete this course, you will need: - Students must be reasonably physically fit to undertake the practical components of this course. Those that are visually or hearing impaired may not meet the WHS requirements of the a grooming salon to complete all of the practical components of the course. Students should have reasonable computer skills in word processing and simple navigation. - Students must have arranged their own work placement of at least 8 hours per week in a grooming salon before enrolment. You will need this placement to complete the practical skill competencies in this course and participants must be reasonably physically fit to undertake this placement and be directly involved in the grooming of live animals. You will be required to supply proof of this work placement before finalising your enrolment. This proof should be in the form or a letter or email from you facility confirming your start date, hours per week, duties and have the contact details of a supervisor.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part time day face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 12 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 28 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 5.1 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 10 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including work placement in a grooming salon, assignment preparation, private study and research(independent study, research, practice and assignments).

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
