Submission of a training logbook for work placement
Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

Entry into this qualification is open to individuals who:
• hold a Certificate II in Animal Studies
OR
• hold a relevant Certificate III or higher level qualification in an animal science discipline
OR
• can demonstrate equivalent skills and knowledge in a relevant animal science discipline to any of the above qualifications.
To successfully complete this course, you will need to meet the performance / skills Assessment Requirements of the qualification:
• students must have work placement arrangements of a minimum of 480 hours in a veterinary practice / clinic / hospital
• students have completed at least Year 12, in addition to undertaking LLN assessments at TAFE NSW
• students have the same physical capacity for veterinary nursing/ animal care and management work as when they were undertaking the prerequisite qualification or the demonstration of equivalent skills.
Learners will be required to provide evidence of work placement arrangements at a Veterinary practice/clinic or hospital of a minimum of 480 hours. Students must provide evidence of confirmation of work placement prior to enrolment. An example of work placement evidence is a signed letter from a veterinary practice. Students who are unable to provide evidence of work placement will not be allowed to enrol into the course. Students whose work placements are made unavailable during the course must find other suitable work placement to meet the qualification and unit requirements.
Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 21 units of competency, including 17 core and 4 speciality units.
Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

TAFE NSW Orange operates out of three sites, with the main March Street campus housing the majority of courses. The Anson Street Annexe offers courses in carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, shop fitting and sign writing, while the Rural Skills Centre on Forest Road offers a range of primary industries and natural resources courses including agriculture, animal studies, conservation earthworks, horticulture and electrical trades. As a major regional centre, TAFE tailors its programs to reflect the diversity of job opportunities in the region. The specialties include Aboriginal health, accounting, animal studies, automotive, business administration and carpentry.
