Course Details
This qualification covers occupational outcomes for shearing at the professional level. This requires a high standard of workmanship at a rate of at least 120 adult merino sheep or 140 adult crossbred sheep per day. The shearing industry expects this qualification to be achieved to meet job outcomes at this level.
This qualification is suitable for an Australian Apprenticeship.

To be eligible to enrol in this qualification applicants must be able to demonstrate shearing skills and knowledge at Certificate II in Shearing level by completion of that certificate or by Recognition of Prior Learning.

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To be eligible to enrol in this course applicants must be able to demonstrate shearing skills and knowledge at Certificate II in Shearing level by completion of that certificate or by Recognition of Prior Learning.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a flexible blended course. You will need to attend approximately 3.9 hours of class via block release, over 1 year. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 0.6 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete approximately 44.8 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study and in shed skills.

This course was developed through extensive industry consultation with shearing contractors, pastoral companies and agricultural organisations. The aim of the course is to train participants to fill a skills shortage area in entry level employment in the Shearing industry.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) support
TAFE NSW will make every reasonable effort to ensure that it can accommodate a learners Language, Literacy and Numeracy needs. Support is based on a review of the applicants LLN skills through written tasks and a one-on-one interview and if deemed applicable, a meeting will be arranged to discuss the LLN assistance that TAFE NSW can provide to the learner, with a view to creating an individual training and learning plan that best addresses the learners LLN needs.

This course is currently scheduled as block delivery - Students will be provided a timetable/program upon enrolment.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
You will need to provide PPE, covered in work boots and clothing appropriate to undertake shearing and crutching tasks. Stationery to undertake the qualification.
