The nationally accredited Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology enables you to broaden your trade and be in demand as an automotive air conditioning specialist, in an industry of the future. Successfully complete this qualification and you can apply for your AAC02 Refrigerant Handling Licence and drive your career forward.

  • Be employed inthe automotive air conditioning industry as this course is delivered in the workplace

COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements that are necessary for you to complete your course work and be successful.

You need to meet the following success requirements to be able to undertake work placement within industry.

Once you have enrolled in this course, you will need to get a TL000 Refrigeration and air conditioning trainee licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council. You cannot start your training without this licence.

To apply for your licence, you will need:

  • Proof of course enrolment from TAFE NSW student services
  • A signed declaration by your work supervisor using the online form

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

On completion of your course, you will be eligible to apply for:

  • AAC02 Refrigerant handling licence. This licence enables you to work in the industry as an automotive air conditioning specialist.

  • The ability to work unsupervised
  • A valid drivers licence

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

On completion of your course, you will be eligible to apply for:

  • AAC02 Refrigerant handling licence - through Australian Refrigeration Council. This licence enables you to work in the industry as an automotive air conditioning specialist.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

  • a qualified Motor Mechanic or Automotive Electrician holding a Certificate III Transcript/Certificate OR Hold a current trade licence in the afore mentioned qualifications.

Students, once enrolled, are required to obtain from the Australian Refrigeration Council TL000 - Refrigeration and air conditioning trainee licence.

TL000 requires the student to:

  1. Have proof of enrolment in the applicable course listed; which is satisfied by;
    a. TAFE NSW confirmation of enrolment document, or:
    b. TAFE NSW Tax invoice (for fee paying students)

These document are obtained from TAFE NSW student services upon payment of fees or if enrolment is online documents are emailed to the student in PDF format which can be uploaded into the arcktick.org portal.

  1. A Work supervisor declaration of the application of Refrigerant handling License completed by the proposed supervisor: which is satisfied only by using the form located at: https://www.arctick.org/media/1164/licence-application-supervisor-declaration.pdf

TAFE NSW is not involved in the licencing process and does not issue licences.

Verification of possession of TL000 License:

  1. Student must produce the license prior to commencement of the class. Students who cannot produce the license or proof of licence being granted cannot commence training.
  2. Licenses are photocopied by trainer/assessor and these are retained in role-book.
  3. The Trainer/Assessor records the TL000 license number of each student manually on the class list/role at the commencement of first day of the course and transfers this information into EBS when convenient.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Part-Time Evening, face-to-face course. You will need to attend approximately 7.8 hours of class, over 2 nights a week, for 10 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 1 hour of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study and work experience.

This course offering is designed for people who:

  • are a qualified Motor Mechanic or Automotive Electrician holding a Certificate III Transcript/Certificate OR Hold a current trade licence in the afore mentioned qualifications.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a range of tasks relating to servicing and repairing air conditioning components and systems of cars and heavy vehicles in an automotive service and repair business.

The completion of this qualification enables an individual to apply for an AAC02 - Refrigerant handling licence. This licence is governed by the Australian Refrigeration Council, which should be contacted for further information.

Note: Individuals who attain AUR20218 will be considered eligible to obtain the Automotive Air Conditioning Licence (AAC02) with a No Retrofit or Modify restriction as specified by the Australian Refrigeration Council. Students wishing to apply for a refrigerant handling licence are required to apply directly to the Australian Refrigeration Council. This course is currently scheduled on Monday and Wednesday from 6.00pm to 9.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
