Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: short answer, multiple-choice and true or false questions, assignments

  • Practical skills assessments: demonstrations under observation

  • Simulated workplace projects: a portfolio of evidence

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • There is no work placement requirement for this qualification. As an apprentice, you will gain your experience on-the-job with your employer.

  • If you are enrolling as a non-apprentice, you need to be in relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments in order to meet the course completion requirements.

Materials needed

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Gloves, safety glasses and ear protection ($20). PPE is a WHS requirement to enter the workshop. Students have the option of sourcing their own PPE.
    • Text Book: Todays Technician Automotive Electricty and Electronics, classroom and shop manual pack By Hollembeak ($170). Course manual is a requirement for study. Students can source their own manual if required.

  • To take this course as an apprenticeship you need to be employed as an apprentice in the industry as evidenced by a letter of support from your employer and

  • Submit your Training Plan Proposal (TPP) with your application

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 32 Units of competency, including 21 core and 11 speciality units.
