Course Details

This qualification is suitable for autonomous individuals who identify and apply project management skills and knowledge in a wide variety of contexts. Job titles for these roles may include contracts officers, project administrators, quality officers and small business operators.

Individuals in these roles might be members of a project team, with no direct responsibility for overall project outcomes. Primarily, these roles would support wider project operations. They may use project tools and methodologies selectively to support organisational or business activities.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

  • experience in industry, at least to a Certificate II level or equivalent

  • experience as a team member, undertaking project work or conducting project activities under the direction of project supervisor/manager

    You will be assessed on your existing skills and knowledge during the scheduled information session. A course outline and briefing is provided at the first class orientation session, indicating work experiences, information access and time commitment required to successfully complete the course.

    To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • access to computer hardware and software, such as Word, Excel, PPTs and Adobe Reader, to complete word documents, spreadsheets, internet search and iTAFE access along with assessment submission

  • to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment by completing RU Ready online. This testing is completed within the first four weeks of class and a comprehensive report of your skills is given to the teacher

This is a part time evening course. You will need to attend approximately 3 hours of face-to-face class and 3 hours of iTAFE/Skype lessons, over 1 night a week, for 20 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 9 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 10 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including utilising project management reference material such as podcasts, YouTube, and selected readings from the project best practice website.

    Additional Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) support may be provided in the classroom, where a need has been highlighted through screening. Students who have identified as having a disability, are eligible to receive individual tutorial support, deteremind on an individual basis.

This course is currently scheduled on Wednesday from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. iTAFE/Skype lessons on Wednesday from 2.00pm to 5.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.


This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
