  • An understanding of work place expectations and practices, skills in communication and team work
  • Numeracy, literacy and communication skills gained through school or work experience at a minimum level of year 12 of high school

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you:

  • have a comprehensive micro business concept ready to discuss with your teacher at induction.

To be prepared for this course, it is recommended that you have:

  • An interest and some knowledge, skills or experience in small business, gained through work experience or previous study
  • Some experience working with digital technology and different computer software programs like the Microsoft Office suite
  • An understanding of work place expectations and practices, skills in communication and team work

It is beneficial for students to have access to a computer at home to allow for practice and completion of at home activities and completion of assessment work. Students will also have access to TAFE campus library resources to complete any work.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • to complete your course work as per your timetable schedule and participate regularly and consistently.

TAFE NSW will make every reasonable effort to ensure that it can accommodate students? language, literacy and numeracy needs. Support is based on a review of the applicants? LLN skills prior to or within the first two weeks of commencement of study. This is achieved through written tasks or accessing diagnostic tools such as RUReady and can include a one on one interview. Ongoing identification of LLN support needs will occur through monitoring formative class activities and if deemed applicable a meeting will be arranged to discuss the LLN assistance that TAFE NSW can provide to the learner, with a view of creating an individual training and learning plan that best addresses the student?s LLN needs.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part time day, face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 12 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 36 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 3.8 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 4 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, research and assessment preparation.

This course offering is designed for people who:

  • are both young and mature age students who are often already working in industry and have existing knowledge, skills and experience that they bring to their learning. New Entrant students will possess basic knowledge and skills in working with digital technology and have an intermediate understanding of work place expectations and practices. They also possess some skills in communication and team work.
  • may have limited experience working in small business. Other students enrolling in this qualification may have already initiated small business development.

All students in this cohort wish to gain the knowledge and skills to be able to successfully start a small business.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

  • general stationery, (ie, pen, pencil, eraser, highlighters and stapler), including an A4 ring binder/dividers and plastic sleeves for handouts. Headphones and a USB storage device or access to a cloud storage account will also be required.
