Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: short answer, research tasks

  • Practical skills assessments: demonstrations under observation, role plays using a fictional organisation or your own workplace as a basis

  • Simulated workplace projects: scenario-based problem solving

  • Some assessments may require you to record using a device (such as a smartphone) and submit via our eLearning portal. You may also need to source participants to support your role play work.

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • This course is by application and you will need to satisfy the entry requirements and provide certified evidence at application.

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

    • Have completed year 12 (HSC) or equivalent or 1-2 years of experience working in an organisation in a WHS role.
    • All students will be be assessed to determine their Language, Literacy and Numeracy levels prior to course commencement.
  • To successfully complete this course, you will need:

    • To have access to a computer with reliable internet connection and have the skills to use basic features of Microsoft office such as: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. In addition, you should have good communication skills that will allow you to express your ideas both in writing and verbally, as well as the ability to set and achieve work goals.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Work Health and Safety qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 10 Units of competency, including 5 core and 5 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

  • Contribute to developing, implementing and maintaining an organisation's WHS management system BSBWHS516

  • Lead the development and use of WHS risk management tools BSBWHS519

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
