Proposed timetable What time classes run

Individuals enrol and work through the required units by attending fortnightly half day workshops and assessment sessions (with weekly support sessions) via Microsoft Teams on Thursday from 8.00am to 1.00pm & Friday 9.00am to 10.30am.

Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: short answer, research tasks

  • Practical skills assessments: demonstrations under observation, role plays using a fictional organisation or your own workplace as a basis

  • Simulated workplace projects: scenario-based problem solving

  • Some assessments may require you to record using a device (such as a smartphone) and submit via our eLearning portal. You may also need to source participants to support your role play work.

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have all core units in BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent competencies:

    • BSBWHS402 Assist with compliance with WHS laws
    • BSBWHS403 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes
    • BSBWHS404 Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
    • BSBWHS405 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems
    • BSBWHS406 Assist with responding to incidents
  • To successfully complete this course, you will need:

    • Access to and an ability to use a computer
    • Access to Microsoft Office applications including Teams, Outlook, Word , Excel and PowerPoint
    • Access to a reliable internet connection
    • Access to a workplace on which to base assessments responses is ideal however, if you do not have access to a workplace a case study will be provided
    • Access to some office equipment that may be required. This may be via the nearest TAFE campus if you are unable to access it in a workplace or similar

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Work Health and Safety qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 10 Units of competency, including 5 core and 5 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

  • Lead WHS risk management BSBWHS513

  • Lead initial response to and investigate WHS incidents BSBWHS515

  • Contribute to developing, implementing and maintaining an organisation's WHS management system BSBWHS516

  • Lead the development and use of WHS risk management tools BSBWHS519

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.

TAFE NSW Dubbo is housed over two centrally located campuses: the Myall Street campus and the Narromine Road campus.TAFE NSW Dubbo specialises in agriculture, heavy and light vehicles, hairdressing and beauty therapy, construction and nursing courses.
