Assessments

  • Knowledge assessments: short answer, research tasks

  • Practical skills assessments: demonstrations under observation, role plays using a fictional organisation or your own workplace as a basis

  • Simulated workplace projects: scenario-based problem solving

  • Some assessments may require you to record using a device (such as a smartphone) and submit via our eLearning portal. You may also need to source participants to support your role play work.

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have completion of the core units from Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety:

  • BSBWHS412 Assist with workplace compliance with WHS laws;

  • BSBWHS413 Contribute to implementation and maintenance of WHS consultation and participation processes;

  • BSBWHS414 Contribute to WHS risk management;

  • BSBWHS415 Contribute to implementing WHS management systems and

  • BSBWHS416 Contribute to workplace incident response or equvalent competencies from BSB41415

  • To successfully complete this course, you need to regularly attend class and submit assessments on their due dates. You will need to commit at least 6 hours each week outside class hours to meet the study load/assessment preparation.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Work Health and Safety qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 10 Units of competency, including 5 core and 5 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

  • Lead initial response to and investigate WHS incidents BSBWHS515

  • Contribute to developing, implementing and maintaining an organisation's WHS management system BSBWHS516

  • Lead the development and use of WHS risk management tools BSBWHS519

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
