Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply specialised knowledge and skills, together with experience in leadership and management, across a range of enterprise and industry contexts.

Individuals at this level use initiative and judgement to plan and implement a range of leadership and management functions, with accountability for personal and team outcomes within broad parameters.

They use cognitive and communication skills to identify, analyse and synthesise information from a variety of sources and transfer their knowledge to others, and creative or conceptual skills to express ideas and perspectives or respond to complex problems.

While there are no formal educational requirements for entry into this course, the completion of a Diploma of Business/Leadership & Management (or similar), or over 5 years industry experience at a senior managerial role is the recommended pathway. STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Part Time Evening Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 4.5 hours of class, over 2 days a week (one online, one on campus), for 52 weeks/ 12 months.

As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 12-14 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, practice and making independent enquiry, undertaking research, learning activities and assessments tasks. There is also an option to complete parts of this course fully online if required.

This course is delivered in subject blocks over a 4 week period with online classes held each Monday from 7:00pm-8:30pm; a class on campus on Wednesday 6:00pm-9:00pm and completed with one Saturday workshop 9:00am-4:00pm in the 4th week. There are 8 blocks in total. You will attend 4.5 hours of classes for 3 weeks and 10.5 hours in the 4th week (full day Saturday every 6 weeks).

Due to the current COVID-19 crisis face to face classes will be temporarily replaced with virtual sessions until it is safe to resume on campus classes. Further instructions will be provided to you from your teachers after enrolment.

Can you work independently with little supervision? Allowance is made for the needs of particular groups (e.g. people with disabilities, and people who may have literacy or numeracy difficulties, such as speakers of languages other than English. Potential students should be aware that this is an advanced course for experienced managers. It assumes that students already hold the Diploma in Leadership & Management (or equivalent) or at least five years experience in a senior managerial role. This course is not suitable for HSC school leavers and those with no managerial experience. Such students are strongly advised to undertake the Certificate IV and Diploma of Leadership & Management first. This Advanced Diploma is an academically challenging course that assumes students have experience in academic/report writing and fundamental knowledge of current leadership & management practices. SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

PAYMENT OPTIONS AND ASSISTANCE

This course is approved for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan (VSL). If you meet the VSL eligibility and academic suitability requirements, you are able to apply to the Commonwealth for a loan to cover all or part of your course fee. We will ask you whether you would like to apply for a VET Student Loan when you enrol and advise you of the process.

To complete your VET Student Loan application, you will need to provide:

  • Your Tax File Number (TFN). If you dont have a TFN, click here for information on how to apply for one. You can complete your loan application with a Certificate of Application for a TFN, but must provide your TFN as soon as it is issued. If you dont provide your TFN before your first census day, you will need to pay the tuition fees for that unit of study.
  • Your Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN) ). If you have previously accessed a loan via the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP), either at TAFE or university, you will already have a CHESSN. You must use the same CHESSN whenever you access a student loan. If you dont have CHESSN, we will allocate one on your behalf.
To be eligible for a VET Student Loan, you will need to be assessed as academically suitable to undertake high level VET study. You will need to provide:
  • A copy of your Australian Year 12 Certificate; OR
  • A copy of a certificate showing that you have been awarded a qualification at level 4 or above in the Australian Qualifications Framework (where the language of instruction was English). If you previously completed a Certificate IV or higher qualification at TAFE NSW, just let us know where and when you studied in your application; OR
  • Display competence at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy through an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy test. We will let you know if this is required once you apply.
