Take your first step into the world of early childhood as a childcare support worker with the nationally accredited Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

TAFE NSW offers the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care as either a traineeship or non-traineeship, so you cancreate the career you want.

** Non-traineeship **

There are no entry requirements for non-trainees. You can enrol in this course now.

** Traineeship **

To be eligible for this course you must:

  • Be employed inthe childcare sector as this course is delivered in the workplace
  • Have a signedtraineeship contract

COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements that are necessary for you to complete your course work and be successful.

You will need to meet the following success requirements to be able to undertake work placement within industry. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Vaccination and health screenings
  • Any additional evidence your work placement provider requires

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

Under the Education and Care Services National Law (2011), the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) publishes lists of approved early childhood education and care qualifications and information regarding regulatory requirements here: www.acecqa.gov.au.

WORK PLACEMENT

Work placement provides you with opportunities to practise responding to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

During your course, you will undertake a mandatory 120 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer.

TAFE Digital students: You are responsible for arranging your own work placement. Our SkillsTeam can offer support and guidance to assist you.

Campus-based students: TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement with a suitable industry employer.

Decisions on where you will be placed are guided through a nomination process of your preferred centre and your personal circumstances.

Work placement generally only begins once you have had significant contact with your teacher and they are satisfied that you are ready to benefit from on-the-job industry learning.

** Physical ability **

You must also have a reasonable level of fitness and flexibility to carry out:

  • Manual lifting
  • First aid responses including performing CPR while kneeling on the floor

Certain aspects of assessment rely on your physical ability to perform two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult and infant manikin at floor level, and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life.

If you are unable to meet the physical requirements, you will not be able to successfully complete this course.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

  • A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) for work within NSW.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

-to attend TAFE classes on Mondays 5:30pm-7:30pm and Tuesdays 8:30 - 1.00pm at Grafton Campus during term time
-to complete 6 hours per week of directed self paced learning which may include research, reading and assessment preparation
-to participate in 6 -12 hours per week of work placement in an Early Childhood Education Service, to meet the mandatory 120 hour, mimimum workplacement requirement for the qualification. TAFE NSW will arrange a workplacement in an Early Childhood Education Service.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part time day, blended course. You will need to attend approximately 20.7 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 36 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 4.2 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including assessment preparation, research and readings.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
